Friday the 13th is lucky at OUR sandwich franchise!

Friday the 13th is lucky at OUR sandwich franchise!

Quick- when you hear “Friday the 13th,” what comes to mind? This guy, right?

Friday the 13th Jason Voorhees

Well, what if we told you that after THIS Friday the 13th, you’ll be associating the date with delicious sandwiches instead of psychotic hockey-masked killers, all thanks to the Cheba Hut sub franchise? That’s right, hang onto your “toasted” buns, Cheba Hut loyalists- our humble sandwich franchise is about to make Friday the 13th YOUR lucky day! This Friday, September 13, the first 100 fans in line at every (participating) Cheba Hut sandwich franchise in the land are going to get…FREE NUGS!!!

sandwich franchise free nug day 9/13/19

*first 100 customers on 9/13/19. Participating Cheba Hut locations only. Void where prohibited.

No, not “those” nugs…obviously we are referring to the 4-inch sub sandwich featured on every Cheba Hut menu. That’s right- if you are one of the first hundred lucky guests at your favorite Cheba Hut this Friday, you will receive a free nug sandwich, toasted to perfection and chock-full of your favorite ingredients!

It’s our little back-to-school present for the young people in college towns across America who have helped us rise to sandwich franchise prominence. But you don’t have to be a student to get our free back-to-school nug. We’re all students, in one way or another, and whether you’re heading back to high school, college, or just the school of life, we want you to have a sandwich on us!

Little promos like this are what we love to do best, and we especially enjoy helping our Franchise Owners create a strong, dare we say rabid, following amongst the sandwich enthusiasts in their community. We do this by providing corporate support without being so…corporate about it. For example: this sandwich giveaway. We’ve come up with the basic concept, and we’ve created a few little marketing materials, like the snazzy image at the top of this post, to help get the word out to our legions of fans throughout the country. Our Franchise Owners then get to take the Free Nug Day event and run it independently in each of their stores, without some corporate suit breathing down their necks the whole time. That’s the beauty of owning a Cheba Hut sandwich franchise- you get all the benefits of being part of a large sub franchise corporation that’s able to give you a competitive edge against the local Quiznos or Jersey Mike’s, without any of the corporate bullshit that typically follows. Sure, we’ve got some guidelines in place for our Franchise Owners- we couldn’t be the best damn sandwich franchise in America if we didn’t have at least some rules- but for the most part, we’re a hands-off, you-do-you type of sub franchise that just wants to see our Franchise Owners kick ass and take names in their local Fast-Casual market. The way we see it is this: when you win, we all win!

So now, back to the free nug sandwiches- stop on by your local Cheba Hut this Friday, September 13, and be one of the first 100 folks in line, and not only will you get a firsthand glimpse of the tremendous marketing support you can expect as a Franchise Owner, but also a look at the smiling, potentially glassy-eyed faces of our biggest fans whose Friday the 13th just got a little luckier. Those beautiful people are the reason we’re in the sub sandwich franchise biz, and once you see how stoked they are to be scoring a free Cheba Hut nug, you’ll want to be in it too.

We’re “rollin’” across America, and we want you to join us. If you think you’re Cheba Hut material, hit us up on our website for more info!

Best Sub Franchise for Free Spirited Individuals!

Best Sub Franchise for Free Spirited Individuals!

Quick- what’s your definition of the best sub franchise on the planet? Sure, it’s got to have supremely tasty sandwiches radiating love with every bite- that goes without saying, but there’s something more that goes into creating a sub franchise that hits home with fans all over the country. We’re talking about personality! And thanks to our unique, tradition-bucking, mold-breaking culture, Cheba Hut makes sure that each and every location of our sub franchise is absolutely bursting with personality and individualism. Each Cheba Hut restaurant is filled with art, music, and food that not only reflects the cities they reside in, but the one-of-a-kind characters who inhabit the locations, both behind the counter and in the tables and booths.

A recent article in 1851 Franchise discussed the special knack Cheba Hut possesses for customizing our “joints” so that no two are exactly alike. From the original wall mural that creatively depicts local heroes and places of interest, to the lovingly-curated playlist featuring beats indigenous to the region, Cheba Hut is on a mission to ensure that each location stands on its own as the best sub franchise in the city. We’re the “anti-franchise,” and we take our job seriously!

Our specialty sandwiches and drinks that are featured only on local menus are a big part of what sets us apart from competing sub franchises. Walk into any Subway, Jimmy John’s, or Jersey Mike’s in the country, and you will be confronted with the same menu options, right? Not so much with Cheba Hut. Sure, we keep the menu pretty consistent so that everyone in America gets a chance to properly love our most popular sandwich offerings, but we like to be a little extra when it comes to bringing that tasty local flavor. Each Franchise Owner gets to come up with a couple of sandwich creations and other one-of-a-kind munchables for the Secret Stash Menu that is exclusive to their store- which means that a true fan of these items can only get them at one place on earth: their local Cheba Hut.

Cheba Hut also supports and celebrates local craft breweries by partnering with just five national brewing companies and then allowing Franchise Owners to choose seven other local microbrew labels to have on tap at our in-store bars. Guests can experience a locally-brewed beer and receive a real taste of the region, while craft brewers get the opportunity to expand their reach and get their product out to more people. We think this makes us stand out, and we figure it’s probably only a matter of time before other sub sandwich franchises hop on the bandwagon and start copying us. For now, though, Cheba Hut is the only sub franchise around that gives Owners the freedom and individuality to incorporate their ideas into the business model.

Because of this, it goes without saying that Cheba Hut is the best sub franchise opportunity for people who want the benefit of a fully-staffed, experienced corporate support team without having everything be so…corporate. In other words, we’re a community of cool, like-minded people who have banded together in the name of superior sub sandwich consumption, and have created this really amazing product that fans absolutely can’t get enough of. Then again, we’re actually interested in what makes you YOU, unlike other franchises in the corporate machine who just want to mass-produce their results over and over…and over…

So if you have absolutely zero interest in becoming another nameless, faceless franchisee at a Blimpie, but you still want the backing and support of a team, not to mention a built-in following of devoted fans who will lose their freaking minds when they hear your shop is opening in their area, becoming a Franchise Owner at Cheba Hut is the best of both worlds! You’re not striking out on your own against Big Sandwich, but you’re still getting the opportunity to march to your own beat and do things your way, most of the time.

The Cheba Hut culture is all about keeping it real, keeping it local, and most of all, keeping it chill. We want our guests to have an amazing meal every time they come in, and we want our Franchise Owners to feel like they’re at the helm of the damn best sub franchise in their town, because they absolutely are! When you feel good about what you do, and you enjoy doing it, then you’re going to succeed- it’s as simple as that.

We are currently on a quest to completely obliterate all sub franchise competition by introducing Cheba Hut to cities across the United States. Sound fun? We’re looking for people to join us on our mission to bring superior subs and good vibes to communities everywhere. Please take a moment to complete that little form below so we can consider you for eligibility to own a Cheba Hut franchise in your neck of the woods. Need more info? Not a problem. Sandwich Shop Franchise Plans 4/20/20 Opening

Sandwich Shop Franchise Plans 4/20/20 Opening

Oh, Chance Steed. Even if you weren’t one of our awesome new sandwich shop Franchise Owners, we’d still love saying your name. However, we’ve got even more reason to love Chance Steed, and it’s got a little something to do with this interview he gave to Sarah Blaskovich of GuideLive, about his upcoming grand opening in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area.

Texas is not usually associated with the, um, herbal refreshment that goes hand-in-hand with the Cheba Hut culture- in fact, cannabis isn’t even fully legal out there yet– but that shouldn’t be a problem for Chance Steed. After all, Cheba Hut is all about laid-back vibes, excellent food, and good times with great friends- three things that the Lone Star State holds in pretty high regard.

Not only that, but, as the article points out, our sandwich shop franchise doesn’t actually sell any cannabis products. We just like to have a little fun with the names of our tasty concoctions, and tend to name them after some of our favorite strains of a certain popular plant. But that’s it- just sandwiches, dude. We swear. Chance Steed, who considers himself “friendly to the stoner culture,” was quick to point that out, saying, “It’s just a fun theme that goes along with the counterculture.”

Chance Steed (yes, we’re going to see how many times we can work his kickass name into this story!) first happened upon the Cheba Hut sandwich franchise concept on a trip to Steamboat Springs, Colorado, not too far from our Fort Collins headquarters. A friend he was traveling with suggested that the two stop at the Dillon, CO Cheba Hut location for lunch, and he was instantly a fan. “The relaxed and fun, easy-going work atmosphere seemed like the perfect fit for me,” he said in a recent interview. Looking back on that first Cheba Hut experience, during which he ordered The Bomb, a meatball sandwich that remains his favorite menu item to this day, Steed tells GuideLive, “I was sitting there with my buddy, eating that meatball sub, and I said, ‘Man, I could open one of these up in Texas’.”

The Dallas/Ft. Worth Cheba Hut is the first of three sandwich shop franchise locations Chance Steed plans to open in coming years, and he is eyeing neighboring cities like Deep Ellum, Arlington, and Denton as possible future location choices. Not only is the Dallas/Ft. Worth location the first one that Steed will be opening, but it will also be the first Cheba Hut in all of Texas!

Since Texas is, like, really big, y’all, the success of Chance Steed’s first Cheba Hut sub franchise location could make a major impact on kickstarting similar success of future franchise opportunities in other major cities like San Antonio, Austin, or Houston- in other words, Chance Steed’s grand opening is like fuel for the Cheba Van to continue “rollin’” across the great state of Texas, not to mention the rest of the United States.

As an avid poker player, Chance Steed knows a thing or two about taking risks, but we are confident that this is a pretty sure bet for him. We think the trailblazing, mold-breaking Cheba Hut sandwich shop franchise spirit will appeal to a city that has gone and named its basketball team the Mavericks. After all, when all you’ve ever known is Subway, Blimpie, or Schlotzky’s, how can you help but love the superior sandwich ingredients and anti-corporation values you get at a sub franchise like Cheba Hut? With our eye-popping wall murals, eclectic menu that reflects each city’s unique flair, and a playlist that is almost as tasty as the sandwiches themselves, we’re about to give Dallas/Ft. Worth a whole new definition of the sub sandwich franchise.

Any guesses on when Chance Steed would like his grand opening to take place? We’ll give you a hint: it’s a significant date in cannabis culture. People throw parties to celebrate it. The date is literally in the title of this post. Give up? It’s 4/20! But since this is a very special year coming up, Chance has the, er, chance to host his grand opening party on 4/20/2020, which we can all agree is the “4/20”-est day of them all! “I’d like to be open by 4/20/2020,” he says. “For a 4/20 party.” We can’t wait to be front and center when 4/20 rolls around, ready to get our sub on with the one and only Chance Steed. Chance Steed! Chance Steed!!

How would you like to help us get our “grow” on in your little corner of the world? We’re on a “roll,” and aren’t stopping the Cheba Van anytime soon! Give us a shout if you want to be considered for a Cheba Hut sandwich franchise opportunity by completing the form below. Need a little more info first? Not a problem. Click here to be whisked away to our sub franchise website, where we can answer more of your questions and give you all the deets on what it takes to be Cheba material.

Sub Franchise Owner Chats About Expansion

Sub Franchise Owner Chats About Expansion

Here at the Cheba Hut sub franchise, we’re all about expansion these days. It’s no secret that our laid-back, feel-good vibes and open-minded, inclusive culture fit in perfectly with the “Green Wave” that’s sweeping across America, and we’re on a mission to bring tasty Cheba goodness in a fun-loving atmosphere to people all over the country. We’re stoked to spread our message of love and deliciousness to the masses, and we won’t stop until everyone in the U.S. of A. has a chance to experience Cheba Hut’s “toasted” subs for themselves, but there are definitely a few areas in the country that we’re eyeing especially hard for future sandwich franchise locations.

One of these states is Michigan, in no small part due to that good old college rivalry we just can’t get enough of! The whole Michigan/Michigan State thing is absolutely the sort of thing we live for, and we’ve got a goal to make our sub franchise an integral part of that time-honored rivalry. In fact, we have big plans to open two Cheba Hut sub franchise locations in Ann Arbor and two in East Lansing by the end of next year. Our Chief Relationship Officer Seth Larsen sat down with Eric Lacy at the Lansing State Journal recently to discuss why our sandwich franchise has its sights set on Wolverine and Spartan territory. “We want each Cheba Hut to feel like that’s the only Cheba Hut,” said Larsen about our approach to creating a custom, one-of-a-kind flair for each sub franchise location we open.  For this reason, there is no doubt that our upcoming Michigan locations will be sure to feature some Spartan and Wolverine style elements.

Larsen also visited with reporter Brenna McDermott from the Knoxville News Sentinel to chat about how markets like Knoxville, Tennessee are highly desirable future locations for the Cheba Hut sub franchise. As we’ve mentioned before, we LOVE being part of college culture, and we’re especially interested in expanding in towns and cities with SEC schools. It’s back to that college team rivalry thing again- we feel like we’re in our element when we’re in cities with young people and good, healthy sports grudges. It’s kind of our thing.  Not only does the Knoxville area have 12 colleges within a 50-mile radius, but it is also home to a thriving music and craft brewery scene- two things we also look for in the ideal sub franchise location. In the article, Seth Larsen likened Knoxville to another awesome U.S. city famous for its distinct counterculture vibe.  “I saw a quote recently that was, ‘Knoxville’s kind of like Austin but without the hype.’ I love Austin, I think Austin’s a great city, but … there’s a lot of hype and it’s super expensive to live and do business there,” Larsen said. “We like the markets that are typically a little under the radar to the rest of the population.”

This approach to total global domination one amazing “toasted” sub at a time seems to be working for us so far- since our humble beginnings in 1998, the Cheba Hut sandwich franchise has grown to 25 locations in seven states…and we’re just getting started. We’re hoping to partner with a Knoxville-area Franchise Owner by 2021, so we can keep this Cheba thing “rollin” throughout the SEC. As the “Green Wave” sweeps across the nation,

Cheba Hut is finding all kinds of success in markets that have legalized cannabis products, thanks to our chill, laid-back culture (uhh…counterculture?) that goes hand-in-hand with partaking in certain recreational activities. But we don’t just limit ourselves to “green” states- places like Knoxville and Nashville in Tennessee, which hasn’t even legalized cannabis yet, are still prime markets for us, thanks to the kickass college culture and cool, out-of-the-ordinary vibes that make them a great place for a Cheba Hut. Since we don’t actually sell marijuana or any cannabis products, we’re perfectly legal in all 50 states. (Unless it’s against the law to make the most delicious sandwiches in town. In which case, guilty as charged!) In an interview that appeared in GreenState this week, Seth Larsen talked more about Cheba Hut’s desire to open a sandwich franchise location in Knoxville. “We’ve kind of been doing this fast-casual thing for longer than that’s even been a buzzword,” he said, adding, “We want to expand, we want to expand to cool markets, and we think Knoxville’s a cool market.”

It’s only a matter of time before the Cheba Hut VW bus rolls into East Lansing, Ann Arbor, and Knoxville- and if you live in any of these markets and want to help us bring our kickass sub franchise to town, we want to talk to you! We’re looking for unique individuals who can put their own personal stamp on a friendly neighborhood Cheba Hut in the cities we’ve got our eye on for the near future.

What if you want to open a Cheba Hut sandwich franchise but don’t live anywhere near Michigan or Tennessee? Don’t sweat it- we’re always on the lookout for cool places with a chill vibe that matches our own. Want to nominate your hometown as the next Cheba Hut location? Hit us up! We’re listening. Just visit our franchise website or fill out the form below to get started. We’re counting on YOU to help us realize our dream of Total Sub Domination! (No pressure.)

Sub Franchise Sets Sights on Nashville

Sub Franchise Sets Sights on Nashville

Guess what, Nashville residents? The Cheba Hut sub franchise wants YOU! That’s right- Music City, U.S.A. is on track to get “toasted,” and we can’t wait! FOX 17 Nashville announced that we’re setting our sights on opening a Cheba Hut sub franchise near Vanderbilt University.

In case you were wondering, that’s no coincidence- Cheba Hut is specifically looking to open more sandwich franchise locations in towns where SEC colleges also reside. Why? It’s simple: college students love us! What could be more “college” than hitting up Cheba with your best buds, or scarfing a dank White Widow pinner and some Kool-Aid during a late-night study sesh? Ever since Cheba Hut began back in 1998 (which, by the way, is before some of these current college students were even born, if you didn’t feel old enough yet today), bringing our sub franchise to college towns has been part of our master plan to dominate the sandwich market. (Evil laugh.) Seriously, though- if you were a sub franchise brand that was all about chill vibes, great tunes, tasty subs, and giving a one-finger salute to Da Man, wouldn’t you want to hang out with college students too?

SEC colleges like Nashville’s Vanderbilt University add another layer to our Cheba Hut Global Domination Manifesto because they bring the fun and competitive nature of sports rivalries into the mix. In case you haven’t noticed by now, Cheba Hut is all about one-upping the competition and engaging in a little harmless smack-talking, so we’re right in our element when we find ourselves amidst epic football rivalries between universities in the Southeastern Conference.

The open-minded, laid-back Cheba Hut culture is another thing that makes us a great fit for college towns, because it’s a time in people’s lives where they can expand their horizons, think for themselves, and truly embrace new philosophies and ways of life. “We want Cheba Hut to be part of that ‘Rite of Passage’ that’s part of college—that experience of making awesome memories with friends at the local Cheba Hut has the chance to become a big part of going to college in Baton Rouge, or Gainesville, Athens, Fayetteville,” said our COO Marc Torres in a June interview. Now we’re looking to add Nashville to the list, so we can know for sure that Cheba Hut is on pace to become the go-to sub franchise for hungry college students looking for more than just a regular dining experience.

Besides the awesome college students at Vanderbilt that we can’t wait to meet, we’re also excited to get “rollin” into a city with such a music-rich history. After all, you don’t get the nickname “Music City” without a culture that is steeped in music! We’ve always believed that good vibes and good subs go hand in hand with good music, and we make our signature playlists an integral part of every Cheba Hut sub franchise we open. In fact, each Cheba Hut location has a slightly different playlist cranking over the speakers while you eat, with songs by local artists woven in with fan favorites. We try to keep our music as unique to each location as its decor and featured subs- it’s a huge part of what makes us different from other sandwich franchises. So we can’t even begin to imagine how exciting it will be for our Nashville location Franchise Owner, whoever he or she may be,  to craft the Cheba Hut playlist for a place that’s home to the Civil Wars, Kings of Leon, and just So. Many. Country. Musicians. Wow, we just got goosebumps thinking about it!

So here’s the deal- if you live in Nashville, or want to live in Nashville, and share our dream of feeding hungry students the mind-blowingly tasty subs they deserve, we want to talk with you! If you’re sitting there right now, reading this, thinking how great it would be to own a Cheba Hut “Toasted” Subs full of smiling Vanderbilt University students, rather than whatever you’re doing right now, here’s your opportunity to do something different with your career! All it takes is a simple click right here on this link to be whisked away to our franchise website, where you can learn all about our amazing brand, crazy-good economics, and playful, fun-loving spirit. Or, if you’re ready to really get into it, go ahead and complete the form below to get started on the path to your new, fun life as a Cheba Hut Franchise Owner! Even if you don’t live in Nashville, it’s OK- we’re breaking ground and blazing trails all over the U.S. of A., and are awarding franchise opportunities in several select territories across the country.

The Cheba Revolution is heating up- now’s the time to join us on our mission to bring love, light, and subs to the people of Earth. Who’s with us???

Meet Sandwich Franchise Owner Doug Engerman!

Meet Sandwich Franchise Owner Doug Engerman!

sandwich franchise

Citizens of Seattle- your world is about to get totally rocked by the best sandwich franchise in the U.S.A.! Thanks to Doug Engerman, our newest member of the Cheba Hut family, the great state of Washington is slated to get THREE new Cheba Hut locations. Doug’s first Cheba Hut will open later this year in Bellingham, a Seattle suburb with a laid-back, approachable vibe that Doug felt would be ideal for a “toasted” sandwich shop franchise that prides itself on being anything but ordinary.

“Ever since I became acquainted with Cheba, I always thought that Bellingham, culturally, is a ready-made market for Cheba Hut,” explains Doug, who has lived in Washington for over two decades. “Bellingham has a Bohemian flair to it, and 40,000 college students. It feels like a good match not only to me but [Chief Relationship Officer] Seth [Larsen] and other corporate members agree completely.”

Finding the best location is nothing new to Doug, who moved his family to the Seattle area 20 years ago for a job opportunity, and has been happy about that decision ever since. “I’m a Chicago kid,” he says, “born and raised on the north side of Chicago. I moved my family out here and we’ve never looked back.” Doug, who lives in the town of Blaine, at the northernmost point of Washington State near the Canada border, says the breathtaking natural backdrop was one of the biggest attractions for him. “This is really come to be what we think of as home because of the surroundings,” he says. “The natural beauty is really hard to match- no offense to Colorado, but we have everything Colorado does, plus water!”

That’s not the only parallel Doug draws between Washington and Cheba Hut’s birthplace of Colorado. He acknowledges that, after Colorado, Washington was the second state to legalize cannabis. “We’re number two- we try harder,” he jokes. Since we’re a sandwich franchise and sell food products only, it’s not necessary for a state to legalize cannabis consumption before it can get down with some sweet Cheba goodness. However, as cannabis legalization sweeps across America, more people are eager to embrace the cannabis-themed culture of Cheba Hut. As a state that was one of the first to legalize cannabis products, Doug feels that Washington is in excellent position for a Cheba Hut sandwich franchise of their own, especially after seeing that we’ve been kicking so much ass in states that haven’t even legalized it yet, like New Mexico, Arizona, and Florida.

sandwich franchise

Doug’s eclectic background and interests have equipped him with a great skill set for bringing the country’s best sandwich franchise to his community. As a former owner of a company that makes tech products, he has proven that he has the entrepreneurial savvy to successfully run a business. “I’ve pretty much spent my entire career in the tech industry,” he explains. “Specifically I’ve been a software entrepreneur and have been involved in software company start ups, and for the last 13 years I’ve been involved in software company turnarounds. I get involved to help chart a new course in software companies that are underperforming. That’s what I was doing up until a few years ago, and then I had an opportunity to buy a small tech company here in the Northwest.”

Believe it or not, Doug’s impressive tech background also feeds into his passion for music- in addition to being involved in the electronic components industry, he also sings and plays drums and other percussion instruments. “I’m a musician and a lot of software guys double as musicians,” says Doug. “With music, it’s another symbolic language like software programming and it’s a lot of mathematics involved.” Doug’s love of music shines through as he talks about his current involvement in two separate bands. “At the moment, I play in two different bands – one is a jazz group that we started up about 7 years ago now with some guys that were in a software company that I was managing at the time,” Doug says. The band specializes in West Coast and fusion style jazz- “cool jazz, not traditional,” he clarifies.

Doug also plays in one of the hottest funk bands in the Northwest – a 9-piece ensemble called the Cosmic Sauce. “[My involvement in two bands] keeps me ‘well overcommitted,’ as my wife would say,” he laughs.

Between his performing commitments and his work schedule, Doug acknowledges that he doesn’t have much free time left. However, he is an avid fisherman who enjoys both freshwater and saltwater fishing. “I have a fishing boat that I keep here that’s just a few blocks from my house,” says Doug. “I manage to get out fishing  for salmon and crab. A lot of people take advantage of the really great summer months out here, they’re as good as it gets. We have pretty much four solid months of boating and a couple of months of solid fishing so it’s a great lifestyle.”

Doug’s introduction to the Cheba Hut sandwich shop franchise happened organically several years ago, when his college-age daughter took him to the downtown Denver location for lunch during a visit. “My daughter started college at Western Washington University in Bellingham, then transferred to Colorado University for a special study program,” he recalls. “When she graduated in December 2013, the whole family went out there. She said to me, ‘Hey, I want to take you to this place that has absolutely the best food you’ll have in a long time.’ She took me to Cheba Hut in downtown Denver. I was hooked from the first time I went there!”

Doug’s initial Cheba Hut experience convinced him that it was truly the best sandwich franchise he’d ever been to, and he began eating at our flagship Ft. Collins, Colorado location frequently when he was in town on business. “A couple of years ago, I took on a software turnaround project in Fort Collins so I had an apartment in downtown Ft. Collins for 2 years,” says Doug. “I was right around the corner from their campus location and it became my go-to place. The store became my home away from home.”

With so many delicious Cheba interactions over the years, it was only a matter of time before Doug started thinking about what it would be like to run his own location. He began investigating the Cheba Hut sub sandwich franchise opportunity, but still had his doubts about taking the plunge, until he sought advice from a friend who was involved with franchise development for Starbucks, and had what he calls his “Eureka moment.”

“After speaking with my friend for about half an hour, he said, ‘Doug, you want to sign that agreement. Sign it. Because that is the mark of a franchisor that really knows what they’re doing. They’re going to have high standards and demands of their franchisees. You DON’T want a franchisor that just wants to take your money and is not very concerned about the quality of themselves or their franchisees. These guys really sound like that have their act together so you want to rush as fast as you can to sign this agreement.” This was all Doug needed to commit to joining the Cheba Hut team and move forward with the franchise awarding process.

As one of Cheba Hut’s newest Franchise Owners, Doug has been keeping pretty busy with a series of events leading up to signing his Franchise Agreement. He remembers Discovery Day as a relaxed, low-stress way to meet CEO and Founder Scott Jennings and the rest of the corporate team. “Just the chance to meet everybody, sit around the table, and talk openly and candidly,” he says of his favorite part of Discovery Day. “No question was out of bounds and the answers were very straightforward, very direct. Not a lot of code words or buzzwords were used. It was really just a comfortable conversation, which tells me a lot about why they’ve been so successful.”

As the son of an entrepreneur, Doug was born with the spirit of wanting to be in business for himself, and he sees the Cheba Hut opportunity as a rewarding and lucrative step in his career as he follows in his father’s footsteps. “My father was an entrepreneur, and started a number of businesses, so I grew up in that environment and with that mindset,” he explains.  “His advice was always, ‘whenever you have the opportunity, invest in yourself.’”

As Doug sets his sights on the grand opening of his first Seattle-area Cheba Hut sub franchise location, he looks forward to making money, but also is excited about the additional benefits of becoming a Franchise Owner. “I’m not doing this as an exercise in philanthropy,” he laughs. “I’m looking to make a return on my investment, but it goes beyond that. I want to build an organization where I can give young people an opportunity to get some experience, develop some new capabilities, and hopefully build a team of young people that I can help along the way. I’d like to see a smile on the face of every customer that’s coming out of that store and know they’re having a really extraordinary experience.”

If nothing else, says Doug, his Cheba Hut sandwich franchise location will be a prime spot for his bands to play gigs. He says, “If this is what it took to create my own musical venue where my bands and my friends in the music business can play, then that’s a good thing, too!”

As a newly-minted Franchise Owner here at Cheba Hut, Doug is about to embark on one awesome ride! If you see a little bit of yourself in Doug and want in on the Cheba action, it’s easy: just click here to visit our franchise website, where you can find out more about us, the opportunity, and what it takes to open the country’s best sandwich franchise in your area.
